Lady Braves Continue to Buff Up Roster with Signing of Young-Mullins & Rentas-Correa

LORMAN, Miss. – The 2020 recruiting class is now up to seven signees for the Alcorn State University volleyball program with the additions of Maria Rentas-Correa and Mikenzie Young-Mullins, announced by head coach Melissa Robinson.
 
Rentas-Correa is a 5-6 setter from Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico. She comes as a transfer after playing the previous two seasons at Eastern Florida State College.
 
While at EFSC, Rentas-Correa dished out 407 assists in two years and reached double-figures in assists six times. She was named to the FCSAA All-Academic Team in 2018-19.
 
In high school, she was a three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball and track & field at Col. Mercedano San Judas Tadeo in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Rentas-Correa earned academic honor roll recognition.
 
"Maria's leadership, ability to see the court and decision making will help us in revamping our offense. Maria has irresistible spirit of motivating and celebrating her teammates," Robinson said. "We're excited to have Maria."

Young-Mullins is a 5-7 outside hitter from Duncan, South Carolina. She's a Division I transfer from USC Upstate where she spent the last two years.
 
At USC Upstate, Young-Mullins totaled 578 digs, 360 kills, 64 aces and 52 blocks. She was named the team's Player of the Game twice and also won Freshman of the Week. Young-Mullins ranked No. 7 in the Big South Conference in services aces in 2019.
 
Young-Mullins was a two-sport athlete in high school, lettering in volleyball and track & field. She was the 2017-18 Female Student-Athlete of the Year winner. She concluded her career on the volleyball court with 1,112 digs, 874 kills, 198 service aces and 56 total blocks.
 
A North-South All-Star Game participant, Young-Mullins was a four-time All-Region selection. She was also named to the All-Tournament Team twice and earned All-State honors as a senior. Young-Mullins picked up Team Most Valuable Player (2016) and Coaches Award (2015) recognition throughout her career.
 
In track, she won the state championship in the triple jump. Young-Mullins holds the school record in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles.
 
"I've watched Mikenzie grow through the years having the opportunity to coach her sister (Claflin Univ. championship team). She has truly grown into a great player and understands the game well. Mikenzie is that light of energy every coach wants for their team. She is a go-getter and has the experience that will fit perfectly with our offense," Robinson said.
