FAYETTE, Miss. – A standout student-athlete and assistant coach with the Alcorn State University men's basketball program, Delvin Thompson was tabbed the director of athletics and head boys basketball coach at Jefferson County HS.

As a student-athlete at Alcorn, Thompson scored 1,345 points in three seasons. He ranks third all-time in scoring in school history among three-year players.

Thompson earned SWAC Newcomer of the Year honors in 2004-05 and was a two-time All-Conference selection. On Nov. 11, 2006, he scored 15 points in 23 minutes against Texas, guarded by Kevin Durant.

Thompson averaged 15.8 points per game in his career.

Thompson graduated from Alcorn with a bachelor's in education in 2007 and a master's in secondary education/guidance education in 2011. Upon graduation, he played professionally in both Mexico and Germany.

After completing his playing career, he became head boys basketball coach at St. Aloysius HS in Vicksburg.

Thompson returned to Alcorn in 2016-17 when he became assistant men's basketball coach. The Braves finished in second-place in the SWAC and made a run to the finals of the SWAC Championships that season.

In addition to his assistant coach duties, he was also director of player development. He developed guard
A.J. Mosby into earning both SWAC All-Conference honors and HBCU All-American accolades. Thompson spent three seasons on Alcorn's coaching staff from 2016-19.

I took on many duties as an assistant basketball coach with the men's basketball team and it definitely prepared me," Thompson said. Thompson was a star player at Jefferson County in his high school days from 1999-2002.
