Cole, Rembert Named HBCU Players to Watch for MLB Draft

LORMAN, Miss. – With the MLB Draft this evening, Travaris Cole and Brandon Rembert from the Alcorn State University baseball program were named players to watch by Black College Nines.

The first round of the MLB Draft is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and the remaining four rounds begin at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Cole was tabbed the No. 4 ranked prospect from HBCU. The Monticello, Mississippi native was the 2020 HBCU Player of the Year and an All-HBCU First-Team selection.

In the shortened 12-game season, Cole ranked second in the SWAC in home runs and third in RBIs. He hit for a .313 average and tied for a team-best four multi-hit games.

Rembert was a Preseason All-Conference First-Team selection (no postseason conference awards were given). He started all 12 games and tallied three multi-hit games. He was coming off a 2019 year where he led the team with a .345 average and a .462 on-base percentage, which was top-five in the league.
