Moore Accepted Into Newly Created ITA, USTA Mentorship & Development Program

LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University men's and women's tennis head coach Darnesha Moore was one of 12 coaches from around the country to be accepted into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and United States Tennis Association (USTA) coach mentorship and development program.

In its first year, the program consists of a veteran college coach being paired with an up-and-coming coach for a 10-month period. Moore was selected as a mentee and will participate in a series of virtual orientations that will dive into mentorship skill sets, learn effective communication skills and establish coach developmental goals.

Moore was paired with Florida women's tennis head coach Roland Thornqvist who has won four NCAA national championships and 21 SEC Championships in 19 seasons with the Gators with a 438-75 record.

Additionally, all participants will go through the True North Sports Coach Development Academy. The programming will help the coaches develop their team philosophy, culture and program structure.

Moore will also receive free registration to the ITA Coaches Convention, which offers coaches a wide variety of career development opportunities. Past presenters include Stan Smith, Patrick McEnroe, Chris Evert, Craig O'Shannessy, and Roger Crawford.

"I am very excited and thankful for the opportunity to engage in a new learning experience as a mentee and student. I look forward to growing and developing in the profession of coaching," Moore said.

At Alcorn, Moore enters her second year at the helm in 2020-21. Despite her first season being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she coached Alcorn to wins over Florida A&M and Mississippi Valley State.

Moore was a former SWAC student-athlete and won SWAC Most Valuable Player in 2014 at Southern. She came to Alcorn after assisting with the LSU men's tennis team in 2018-19.
