LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University men's basketball program will look to improve its seeding for the SWAC Tournament on Monday night opposite Alabama A&M, who is a half-game ahead of the Braves coming into the game.
The Braves (4-9, 4-4 SWAC) have thrived on the defensive side of the ball, placing top-50 in the NCAA for turnovers forced per game (15.77) and steals per game (8.1) while committing the 45-fewest turnovers.
Troymain Crosby has been the main cog in Alcorn's offensive attack, fronting the conference and placing top-30 nationally with 19.8 points per game. Crosby is also extremely efficient with his shots, landing top-five in the SWAC in both field-goal percentage (45.0) and free throw percentage (80.5).
Oddyst Walker is third in the league in steals per game (1.91),
Tyree Corbett is ninth with 2.00 offensive rebounds per game and
Anthony Fairley ranks tenth for blocks per game (0.83).
Alabama A&M (6-3, 4-3 SWAC) won its only two non-conference matchups over Samford and South Alabama
The Bulldogs are one of the country's elite squads in numerous categories, logging a ranking of 15th or higher in defensive rebounds per game (28.89), fewest fouls (169), fewest turnovers committed (131), field-goal percentage allowed (39.1), three-point field-goal defense (28.7) and rebounds per game (41.11).
AAMU has two of the league's top-five scorers in Jalen Johnson (17.0) and Garrett Hicks (14.4) while Johnson is also among the top-five rebounds at 6.9 a contest.
Hicks might not be a top rebounder but he is fourth in steals per game (1.78) and second for triples a night (2.33).
EJ Williams is the team's best shot blocker at an average of 1.22 and Cameron Tucker fronts the assist department (4.7 per game).
