LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University men's basketball program held Alabama A&M to its second-worst scoring total of the 2020-21 season and just 3-of-16 (.188) from behind the arc to grind out a defensive slugfest of a game, 65-52.
The Braves (5-9, 5-4 SWAC) narrowly edged out the Bulldogs in both turnovers forced (16-10) and rebounds (35-34) but drained nearly 30-percent more of its free throw attempts, all coming in the second half, as it made its trips to the charity stripe count (13-for-17, .765).
Alcorn saw four different players cross the double-figure points threshold led by
Troymain Crosby (21), followed by
Oddyst Walker (13),
David Pierce III (13) and
Kurk Lee (10).
Crosby barely missed a double-double by one rebound but still set new season-bests for boards (9) and assists (2).
Walker set new season benchmarks for rebounds (6) and assists (3) while Lee handed out assists like hotcakes with a game-best seven.
Alabama A&M (6-4, 4-4 SWAC) got a career outing from Jalen Johnson who logged a game-high 25 points and nine rebounds while draining 10-of-12 (.833) field goal attempts to produce just under 50-percent of the team's scoring output.
Outside of Johnson, the rest of the maroon and white clad visitors combined for 27 points, ten field goals and a .270 field-goal percentage.
