LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University men's basketball program will attempt to win its third consecutive contest for the second time of this campaign when it welcomes Alabama State to "The Reservation".
The Braves (5-9, 5-4 SWAC) have thrived on the defensive side of the ball, placing top-50 in the NCAA for turnovers forced per game (15.79) and steals per game (7.9) while committing least amount of turnovers a night in the SWAC (14.1).
Troymain Crosby has been the main cog in Alcorn's offensive attack, slotting second in the conference and placing top-35 nationally with 19.9 points per game. Crosby is also extremely efficient with his shots, landing top-five in the SWAC in both field-goal percentage (46.0) and free throw percentage (81.6).
Oddyst Walker is fourth in the league in steals per game (1.83),
Tyree Corbett is eighth with 2.00 offensive rebounds per game and
Anthony Fairley ranks just outside the top-ten for blocks per game (0.77).
Alabama State (4-9, 4-9 SWAC) has alternated wins and losses over its last four matchups so The Braves will try to halt that trend as the Hornets lost to Southern last night, 75-66.
The black and gold do not commit fouls (254), clean up the offensive glass (12.08 per game) and defend the perimeter (30.8% allowed from three) as they are among the country's 50-best squads in each category.
ASU has three different athletes among the conference's top-ten for offensive rebounds per game including Brandon Battle (2.69), Jordan O'Neal (2.08) and Kenny Strawbridge (1.92).
Strawbridge ranks second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with 7.5 boards a night and has registered the third most double-doubles at four.
Battle also is among the league leaders in rebounds per game (7.4) and double-doubles (5), slotting in second and first, respectively.
Jordan O'Neal is one of the premiere shot blockers in the SWAC, currently in second with 1.83 rejections per game, a top-45 ranking nationwide.
