BATON ROUGE, La. – The Alcorn State University men's basketball program could not slow down a lethal Southern University shooting performance as the Braves dropped one on the road, 89-75.
The Braves (6-10, 6-5 SWAC) saw its modest three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday but still has something to play for this coming week as it has a chance at the #5 seed in the conference tournament.

Alcorn could not miss from the charity stripe, swishing 25-of-27 (.926) for the evening and all 12 of its second half attempts.
Troymain Crosby and
Byron Joshua shared the scoring title for the Purple and Gold with 16 apiece with Crosby also snagging the most rebounds at seven.

Justin Thomas was one on the three Braves tied for the assist lead (3) and contributed 12 points as well.

Malik Hardmon just missed joining the aforementioned trio of crossing the double-digit threshold, scoring nine to go along with three boards and two blocks.
Southern (8-8, 8-4 SWAC) was efficient shooting the rock, making nearly half of their three-point attempts (9-of-20, .450) to go along with 27-for-58 (.466) overall inside the Clark Activity Center.
The Jaguars got contributions from up-and-down the lineup as four starters plus a reserve scored ten or more.

Leading the offensive charge for the light blue and gold was Samkelo Cele (22), followed by Jayden Saddler (16), Harrison Henderson (14), Terrell Williams Jr. (11) and Brendon Brooks (10) off the bench.

Brooks almost accounted for a double-double off the pine, handing out a game-best eight assists to go along with his point total.

Saddler was the steals leader in the contest at four and Henderson pulled down a game-high eight boards.
Alcorn finishes up the regular season on Thursday and Saturday with its annual Lone Star State road trip to Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M in hopes to bounce back prior to the SWAC Tournament the following week.

- With Southern University winning both meetings in 2020-21, SU now nurses a four-game cushion in the all-time series (65-61).
- The turnover margin was dead even at 16 per side but SUBR held the edge in rebounds (25-23).
