BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alcorn State University women's basketball program fought hard through the final whistle but could not breakthrough, dropping the matchup to the third-seeded Lady Jaguars by a score of 73-59.
The Lady Braves (7-13, 7-8 SWAC) won the turnover battle (27-25) and cashed in on more second chance opportunities (11-8) but a slow start to the second half was just too much to overcome.
Kirdis Clark dropped a team-best 15 points on the Lady Jags, shooting 45.5% from the floor (5-of-11) plus two rebounds, an assist plus a steal.

Deja Mitchell and
Diamond Hall both pulled down six boards to share the team-high while they combined for all three of the team's blocks (Hall – 2 / Mitchell – 1).

Cayla Obillo earned a split of both the steals and assists lead for the Purple and Gold, registering three steals and two assists.

Nia McCalphia was the co-leader in the steals department while
Aja Wheeler shared the title for assists.

Southern (12-10, 11-4 SWAC) shot well all afternoon, making 53.8% (7-for-13) from downtown and 49.1% (26-of-53) on field goals.

Four SUBR players had double-figures in scoring, fronted by Amani McWain (18) then Genovea Johnson (13), Nakia Kincey (10) and Tyneisha Metcalf (10).

Taneara Moore was the game's best rebounder with nine, Metcalf topped all participants with six  assists and McWain led the way with five steals.
