LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University women's soccer program goes on the road for the first time during the 2021 spring season as it heads to Grambling and Pine Bluff this weekend.
The Lady Braves (0-4, 0-4 SWAC) have gotten superb play out of its goalkeepers, tallying eight saves per game to rank eighth nationally.
Vivian Lugo has been a freshman phenom for the Purple and Gold, racking up 7.67 saves per match which places her ninth overall in the NCAA and her 23 total saves are fourth-most in the conference.
Five separate student-athletes have registered at least one point for Coach Larry as
Navani Davis,
D'ana Prieto and
Rosalina Santoro have provided the goals while
Kiarra Colson and
Habana Guerra set them up with the assists.
Paula Cabeza (2) and
Niamh Magill (1) have both gotten good looks with shots-on-goal plus All-SWAC First Teamer
Mireya Gonzalez may not have been on-target yet, she leads the club in total shots with six.

Scouting the Grambling State Lady Tigers (2-2-1, 2-1-1 SWAC)
Grambling lost its lone non-conference bout with Louisiana-Monroe (2-0) but have impressed in SWACtion, beating Texas Southern and Alabama A&M while tying Alabama State.
The Lady Tigers are fop-30 in the country for shots-on-goal per game at 8.20 and top-45 in shots per game with 15.80.
Kailey Pena has established herself as one of the best players in the SWAC so far, leading the league with five goals and second in points (10), shots-on-goal per game (2.25) and total shots per game (4.25).
The primary netminder has been Britt Verhees, starting four of the five matches with just three goals allowed (0.73 GAA), 12 saves (80.0 SV%) and a shutout to her credit.
Alcorn is 3-14-1 in women's soccer against GSU in 18 meetings.

Scouting the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions (2-4, 0-4 SWAC)
UAPB has easily handled its two NAIA opponents by a combined margin of 11-1 but have not had the same success against league foes, failing to find the back of the net while surrendering ten goals.
Despite being shutout in SWAC play, the Lady Lions still lead the league in points (30), goals (11) and assists (8) thanks to its blowout victories over Jarvis Christian and Lyon.
Tobi McCoy is tied with Grambling's Pena for the top goal scorer in the conference with five and is all alone on the points mountain at 11.
Playing keeper all season long is Kimberly Moss, averaging 4.83 saves per game and snagging 29 total for a save percentage of 72.5%.
The Lady Braves have defeated UAPB more times than any other school in program history, notching five wins over 22 tries.
