LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University women's soccer program heads east to Alabama for its biannual Yellowhammer State weekend trip at Alabama A&M Friday and Alabama State Sunday.
The Lady Braves (0-6, 0-6 SWAC) have gotten superb play out of its goalkeepers, tallying six saves per game to rank in the top-35 nationally.
Vivian Lugo has been a freshman phenom for the Purple and Gold, racking up 6.75 saves per match which places her just outside the top-15 overall in the NCAA and her 27 total saves are fourth-most in the conference.
Mireya Gonzalez has started to heat up for Coach Larry's group, contributing goals in back-to-back games and leads the club with ten shots, four points, four shots-on-goal plus two goals scored.
Rosalina Santoro is tied with Gonzalez atop the scoring list, also posting four points, four shots-on-goal and two goals but trails by three in total shots with seven.
Navani Davis and
D'ana Prieto round out the goal scorers for the Purple and Gold while
Kiarra Colson and
Habana Guerra have each picked up an assist.

Scouting the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs (1-3, 1-2 SWAC)
AAMU held its own at Alabama-Huntsville in a 1-0 loss during non-conference, blanked Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2-0) in its lone conference win and lost to Grambling State and Jackson State by identical 2-1 scores with the former coming via golden goal.
The Lady Bulldogs are one of the most accurate teams in the country this season, putting 58.3% of their shots on target to be among the top-35 and are an even 50th for saves per game at 5.75.
Jameela Barrett has been crazy accurate, placing six of her eight shots on goal (0.750) to rank top-15 in the NCAA as well as placing top-45 for shots-on-goal per game with 2.00.
Jodi Medina is currently the best goalie in the SWAC according to save percentage, stopping 82.1% of shots kicked in her direction.
The Lady Braves have beaten the Lady Bulldogs once and tied twice in 19 meetings, its lone win coming on September 24, 2017 (3-1).

Scouting the Alabama State Lady Hornets (2-2-1, 2-0-1 SWAC)
The Black and Gold are winless out of conference and have yet to pick up a loss in SWACtion, falling to Troy and UAB by a combined 11-2 but rebounding to beat UAPB (5-0), Jackson State (2-1) to go along with tying Grambling State (1-1).
The Lady Hornets are also an extremely accurate squad as they are top-50 for shot accuracy at 0.556 while just one slot lower at 51st for scoring offense with an average of two goals a contest.
Madison Ropp has been largely responsible for the team's stellar record, totaling 26 saves for an average of 5.20 per match.
Teaggan Ilela is the conference's top helper, leading the Southwestern Athletic Conference in assists per game (0.60) and total assists (3).
Alcorn has the best winning percentage against Alabama State in program history with five wins and 11 losses with a victory in 31.3% of their battles.
