LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University volleyball program got double-digit kills from Young-Mullins, Chambers had double-figure assists and Wilmoth logged ten-plus digs in a loss to UAPB, 3-0.
The Lady Braves (3-7, 3-6 SWAC) will end its campaign with a series sweep of Mississippi Valley State and a victory over Texas Southern in the win column.
Jasmine Chambers averaged 6.33 assists per set (19 total), seven digs and an ace in her final contest donning Purple and Gold. The Fort Worth, Texas native ends her career with the seventh-most assists in program history at a final tally of 1,262.
Mariah Wilmoth was the squad's best defensive player, logging 16 digs (5.33 per set) plus two assists and a service ace.
SWAC Newcomer of the Year Mikenzie Young-Mullins fronted the Alcorn attack with ten kills while registering the second-most digs on the club (8).
Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions | L, 0-3 (21-25, 19-25, 16-25)
The first set saw the first 16 points end in a stalemate at eight before Pine Bluff took control with seven straight and would not trail again en route to a 25-21 Lady Lions set win.
In the second, UAPB started off with five unanswered to be followed by four consecutive by Alcorn (5-4). The Purple and Gold took its first lead at 14-13 but six of the next eight went to the Lady Lions to make it 19-16. The Lady Braves pulled to within one (19-18) but four straight points for the Black and Gold was the final straw as Arkansas-Pine Bluff took a two set advantage at 25-19.
Set number three had six lead changes in the first 18 points (9-9) before the Black and Gold started to slowly pull away at 18-14. That was as close as Alcorn would get when six consecutive Pine Bluff points made it a ten-point edge and the final tally came out to 25-16.
The Lady Braves still claim a 27-16 advantage over UAPB all-time.
