LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University women's basketball program will look to end SWACtion on a high note, traveling to Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M looking to end a short two-game slide.
The Lady Braves (6-11, 6-7 SWAC) are the current #6 seed but could possibly jump to the fifth seed depending on this week's results along with how Grambling State fares.
Coach Kilbert's squad has remained a top-flight defensive juggernaut that it was in 2019-20, placing top-15 nationally with 11.1 steals per ballgame, top-40 for turnovers forced (19.31) an top-60 in turnover margin (2.88).
Kirdis Clark is the leader of the proverbial pack, slotting in second among her SWAC peers with an average of 2.38 while batterymate
Cayla Obillo comes in five ranks behind her at seventh at 1.81 a game.
Clark has consistently been the top dog for Alcorn all season long, scoring 4.5 points more per game (13.4) than the next best Lady Brave (Obillo, 8.9), has swiped the most steals (39), hit the most triples (22) and dished out the second-most assists (38) all while shooting 37.4% from court (83-for-222).
Deja Mitchell has been playing efficient basketball in 2020-21, contributing the best field goal percentage among Lady Braves with 100-plus shot attempts (46.5%) while hauling down the best rebound average on the team (6.1)
Diamond Hall and
Tyginae Wright both share a claim of top shot blocker on the club, each knocking away seven field goal attempts with Hall doing so in one less game than Wright (17 to 16).
Texas Southern (4-8, 3-7 SWAC) is still a dangerous opponent despite what its record portrays as the Lady Tigers are battling for a seat at the SWAC Tournament table, in which they are currently seventh.
The Lady Tigers do well in the turnover department and do not commit many fouls as they rank on the NCAA's top-60 for turnover margin (2.92), fewest fouls (236), fewest turnovers committed (218) and turnovers forced per game (19.69).
Ataiya Bridges is the main baller for the ladies from Houston, ranking fourth in the country with 3.50 steals per game, second in the SWAC for points per game (17.4), sixth in assists per game (3.3) and ninth regarding field goal percentage (39.4).
Te'Aire Hamrbrick is the other prominent player in Maroon on the SWAC leaderboards, making the third-highest three-point average (2.42) in the league as well as the third-best three-point percentage (34.5).

Prairie View A&M (3-11, 2-9 SWAC) has not had the season it envisioned after bringing former Lady Braves Head Coach Courtney Pruitt onboard (Associate Head Coach) but are still in the mix for the conference tournament heading into the final weekend.

The Lady Panthers are the most lethal shot blockers in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, blocking a league leading 4.5 shots per night along with being the most selfless ballclub in the SWAC with a conference-high 15.1 assists a game.

Jasmin Dixon has been the go-to blocker down low for PVAMU with 27 blocks for an average of 1.93 per contest, fourth-best in the conference.

Diana Rosenthal has blended quality defense and accurate offense for Prairie View, slotting fourth in the league with 2.29 steals per game to go along with the eighth-most efficient shooting percentage (40.9).

- All-time, Alcorn has fared pretty well against the ladies from the Lone Star State, combining for a 113-51 (.689) record against Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M.
