BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Braves infielder Tristin Garcia was announced as last week's SWAC Co-Hitter of the Week by the conference office late Friday night after his career day against Mississippi Valley State on Sunday.
Despite his impressive resume in the three years on campus, this is surprisingly his first SWAC Hitter of the Week award, sharing the honor with Texas Southern's Oscar Ponce.
The 5-foot-4 dynamic sophomore set new career-highs of five RBI and four runs scored while tying his personal-best of four hits in a game in the three-day marathon victory over Valley, 14-9.
It was Garcia's fifth career four-hit performance on "The Reservation" as he went 4-for-6 (.667) with a three-RBI triple to break the ballgame open and a stolen base as well.
He had a top-15 batting average in the country going into that contest at .448 but his offensive explosion boosted it up an eye-popping 21 points to .469, which now leads the NCAA in that category.
Garcia and the Braves play game two of its three-game set with Jackson State at 3 p.m. this afternoon at Braddy Field in Jackson.
