BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior forward
Mireya Gonzalez can add another accolade to her trophy case as she was selected to the All-SWAC Second Team by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
The Los Angeles native has been racking up awards in a Lady Braves uniform, earning two All-SWAC Second Team distinctions (2019 & 2020-21) plus a Preseason All-SWAC First Team honor prior to this season.
Â
A major in political science, she has recorded a hat trick in two consecutive regular season finales including the 6-3 victory over Mississippi Valley State in 2019 and this year's 4-0 shutout of Mississippi University for Women in her final home game.
Â
The program's record book will be littered with her name for years to come as she is second all-time in assists (4), third for goals (12) and fourth regarding points (28) while this season she has the fifth-most goals (5) and seventh-most points (10) in a single campaign.
Â
Her junior year (2019) was also one that will go down in the annals of Alcorn lore, notching the most assists in single season history (3), the fifth-most points (11) and eighth-highest goal total (4).
Gonzalez and the Soccer Braves will look to ride off into the sunset with a SWAC Championship run, starting with the #1 seed Alabama State Lady Hornets at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Conference Quarterfinals. Â
