LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University women's soccer program has its eyes set on an upset in the SWAC Tournament Quarterfinals, facing off with the top-seeded Alabama State Hornets at 10 a.m. Thursday in Prairie View, Texas.
The Lady Braves (1-8, 0-8 SWAC) are coming off one of its best performances in program history, a 4-0 shutout of MUW on Senior Day. The four goals were the second-most ever scored by an Alcorn soccer team and it was the 16th shutout all-time, the program's first since October 22, 2017 versus Grambling State (2-0).

Mireya Gonzalez will be on a quest to climb up more program leaderboards depending on how deep of a run the Purple and Gold make. Gonzalez currently sits five goals from second, three assists from first and one point from third on the career lists while one goal from fourth plus one point from fifth on the individual season ladder.
Vivian Lugo is also in the running as well with the goalkeeper needing 14 stops to crack the top-ten for career saves and 18 for ninth on the single season list.

Scouting the Alabama State Lady Hornets (6-2-1, 6-0-1 SWAC)
The ladies from Montgomery have been the masters of close victories this season, with four of its six wins being by one-goal and its only blemish in conference play being a 1-1 tie against Grambling.
The Lady Hornets have a top-50 scoring offense in the NCAA at 2.00 goals per contest while ranking as the best assisters in the SWAC at 1.44 a match.
Teaggan Ilela holds the top spot in the league for total assists and assists per game with five and 0.56, respectively.
McKenna Wiscombe has come through in the clutch when ASU has needed a big shot, slotting in the top-25 nationally with three game-winning goals while placing second in the conference with 59.1% of her shots being on-target.
Madison Ropp is the netminder for the Black and Gold, averaging 3.89 saves per match (35 total) with two shutouts on her ledger in 2021.
Alcorn has won more games against Alabama State in program history than any other school, going 5-12 in 17 matchups.
