BIRMINGHSM, Ala. – Braves Sophomore sensation
Tristin Garcia was recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as the top second baseman in the league, earning a nod on the All-Conference's First Team as voted on by the sports information directors and baseball head coaches.
Garcia, a Louisville, Kentucky native, leads the NCAA in hits per game (1.79), is second for batting average (.448), is the toughest player in the conference to strikeout (12.0), has a top-20 on-base percentage nationally (.509) and front the SWAC regarding doubles per game (0.38).
Â
A small man in stature, the 5-foot-4 middle of the lineup bopper has proven that size does not matter as he currently leads the Braves in each of the following categories; batting average (.448), hits (43), RBIs (24), doubles (9) and total bases (57).
Â
The Preseason All-SWAC Second Teamer and SWAC Co-Hitter of the Week (April 16, 2021), became one of the fastest players in school history to reach the 100-hit milestone, becoming the 49th member of the exclusive club just 66 games into his tenure on "The Reservation".
Â
At the beginning of the SWAC Tournament, which begins for the Baseball Braves at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening, Garcia will be sitting on 110 career hits in Purple and Gold while sporting a career batting average of .377. If that average stood still for the rest of his time in Lorman, it would go down as the 11th-highest batting average in program history.
