48 Student-Athletes Graduate In Spring 2021 Commencement

LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University athletics department awarded degrees to 47 Alcorn student-athletes at Saturday's 2021 Spring Commencement Ceremony inside Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium.

"I am immensely proud of all the graduating student-athletes. The athletic department is thankful for all they have done for their respective athletic programs both on and off the field/court. I know that they will represent Alcorn State University with class and dignity upon leaving these hallowed grounds," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Derek Horne. "Despite the unprecedented circumstances of competing at the highest level in the middle of a global pandemic, these individuals embodied what it meant to be BRAVE. They not only went above and beyond on the court/field but also in the classroom. These student-athletes should be applauded for their determination to represent Alcorn with the utmost class and respect."

The 48 graduates hail from 10 different sports programs with the most coming from football (10), followed by men's track & field and softball (7), volleyball (6), baseball and soccer (5), women's basketball and women's track & field (3) plus one each from men's basketball and women's tennis.

"The hard work and dedication our student-athletes put toward getting their degrees is amazing, and the  numbers show that," said Assistant Vice President for Compliance & Student Academic Services Cyrus K. Russ. "They are not only tremendous athletes, but tremendous students as well. Our faculty, coaches and academic support staff have done a great job of supporting them in the classroom and in competition to allow them to flourish."
