BATON ROUGE, La. – Alcorn Volleyball completed its second Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) cluster event of the 2022 campaign Monday morning with the Braves falling to league-leading Florida A&M, 3-0 in conference play at Seymour Gymnasium on the campus of Southern University. FAMU took the match on set scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-19.
Â
Alcorn (4-22, 3-10 SWAC) amassed seven kills in the opening frame, using two kills apiece from middle blocker Demya Tate and outside hitter Mikenzie Young-Mullins.
Â
FAMU (15-11, 12-0 SWAC) countered in the opener with a .382 hitting percentage, riding three kills each from Brooke Lynn Watts, Irem Ucar and Emerald Jacobs, respectively.
Â
The Braves led 9-6 in the third set behind a pair of FAMU attack errors, as well as a service error charged to the Rattlers. However, FAMU would storm back on the strength of a 9-4 run, thanks in part to three of Alcorn's eight attack errors in the set.
Â
Alcorn was charged in the match by Young-Mullins with a team-high six kills, followed by Makayla Wardlaw with five. Tate ended the match with four kills of her own. Freshman setter Ramona Pulu registered 14 assists while Young-Mullins led the team with nine digs.
Â
The Braves conclude the SWAC Cluster #2 event with a 2-1 record overall in the event.
Â
The next Alcorn contest will serve as "Senior Appreciation Night" for the Braves, as the Purple and Gold welcome Southern (La.) to the Davey L. Whitney Complex for a SWAC matchup on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
