Jeda Curry registered her first double-double of the season on Thursday evening, as visiting Alcorn fell to Southern (La.) by a score of 3-1 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) volleyball action taking place inside Seymour Gymnasium. The Braves dropped the match on scores of 25-16, 25-18, 20-25, 25-22. After falling behind following the first two sets of the match, Alcorn (2-14, 1-2 SWAC) bounced back in the third set to claim the victory, 25-20. Faith Archibong, the Braves would step out to a sizeable 14-6 advantage. Alcorn hit 29 percent as a team in the third frame, while limiting the Jaguars to just six kills and six errors on 30 swings as a unit. However, double-digit kills as a team from the homestanding Jags in each of the second (14 kills / 4 errors) and fourth sets (17 kills / 4 errors), respectively, allowed them to grab their first win of the 2022 campaign. Southern posted a match-high 41 percent attack average in the fourth set en route to the 25-22 win to close out the match. Alcorn was led on the night by Curry's 12-kill, 11-dig performance, as the Hampton, Georgia senior produced her first double-double of the 2022 season for the Purple and Gold.Â
Makayla Wardlaw provided six kills for the Braves, while Young-Mullins gathered in 10 digs to go along with five kills and three service aces. Southern was led by Jordan Felix, as she tallied a 10-kills, 10-digs double-double for her side. Xaria Taylor led the Jaguars with 13 kills in the offensive category, as teammate Marian Attaway led the team in defense with 13 digs and adding four kills of her own.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BRAVES
Alcorn Volleyball completed its second Southwestern Athletic Conference cluster event of the 2022 campaign Monday morning with the Braves falling to league-leading Florida A&M, 3-0 in conference play at Seymour Gymnasium on the campus of Southern University. FAMU took the match on set scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-19. Alcorn amassed seven kills in the opening frame, using two kills apiece from middle blocker Demya Tate and outside hitter Mikenzie Young-Mullins. FAMU countered in the opener with a .382 hitting percentage, riding three kills each from Brooke Lynn Watts, Irem Ucar and Emerald Jacobs, respectively. The Braves led 9-6 in the third set behind a pair of FAMU attack errors, as well as a service error charged to the Rattlers. However, FAMU would storm back on the strength of a 9-4 run, thanks in part to three of Alcorn's eight attack errors in the set. Alcorn was charged in the match by Young-Mullins with a team-high six kills, followed by Makayla Wardlaw with five. Tate ended the match with four kills of her own. Freshman setter Ramona Pulu registered 14 assists while Young-Mullins led the team with nine digs. The Braves conclude the SWAC Cluster #2 event with a 2-1 record overall in the event.

Alcorn wraps up the regular season portion of the 2022 schedule on consecutive Texas days/nights when the Braves travel to Texas Southern (Nov. 13 | 1 p.m.) and Prairie View A&M (Nov. 14 | 6 p.m.). This year's SWAC Championships takes place November 18-20, in Houston, Texas on the campus of Texas Southern University.
