Kendall Powers Braves in Loss at Seattle University

McQuarter, Kendall reach double-figures for Alcorn

SEATTLE – Alcorn's Jeremiah Kendall supplied the Braves with a game-high 19 points Sunday evening, but it was Seattle University recording the 72-58 win in men's basketball action between the two sides in the Redhawk Center. With the win, Seattle improves to 2-0 all-time against the Purple and Gold.
 
Alcorn (3-8) jumped out to a 15-11 advantage in the opening half behind jumpers from Jeremiah Kendall, Trevin Wade and Dontrell McQuarter, respectively. Byron Joshua's floater inside the paint put the Braves up by four just under seven minutes into the game.
 
Seattle University (8-2) would counter with a Riley Grigsby turnaround jumper in the paint, followed moments later by a three-pointer off the shooting touch of reserve forward Kobe Williamson. An Alex Schumacher made three with 10:41 remaining in the half allowed the host Redhawks to hold a 19-15 lead. Schumacher would add a pair of shots from the charity stripe to cap the 9-0 Seattle run.
 
Alcorn's leaders on the evening showed their resolve once again courtesy a 4-0 Braves run off back-to-back second-chance baskets in the paint.
 
On the night, Alcorn scored 11 second-chance points as opposed to Seattle's 10.
 
Brandton Chatfield connected on a jumper off the baseline to put the Redhawks lead at 29-21, before a 10-0 Braves run ended the half, allowing the visitors to take a 31-29 lead into the locker room at the break.
 
In the late first half run for the Braves, it was Shaun Walker beginning the scoring frenzy, while Keondre Montgomery put in two of his six points during the game, as well as Kendall and McQuarter combining for five points down the stretch, respectfully.
 
In the second half, Seattle would outscore the Braves, 43-27.
 
Kendall's free throw with 7:53 remaining in the second half cut the Redhawks lead at 57-56. However, Alcorn would be held to just two (2) points in the final 7:46 of the game.
 
Dawson and Grigsby supplied much of the scoring in the final eight minutes, as Seattle ended the game on a 15-2 run in order to collect its eighth win of the campaign.
 
For Alcorn, Kendall scored nine of his 19 points in the second half. Off the bench for the Redhawks, Paris Dawson supplied his side with 10 points to lead all scorers in the second period.
 
Seattle University registered 18 assists on their 24 made field goals on the night.
 
Dawson and Cameron Tyson led the hosts with 13 points each, while Tyson went on to collect eight rebounds. Grigsby added seven boards of his own. Schumacher and Grigsby each led the Redhawks with six assists.
 
Alcorn was paced by the 19-point, 12-rebound effort of Kendall to complete his double-double effort. McQuarter finished with 10 points and a blocked shot. Dekedran Thorn supplied the team with three steals.
 
Alcorn returns to the hardwood Tuesday, Dec. 20, as the Braves travel to Daytona. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
