Braves Baseball Drops Doubleheader Against McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Alcorn State baseball team falls to 0-3 on the season as it drops games two and three of the four-game series at McNeese State. The Braves lost the first game 14-1 and the second 17-1 Saturday afternoon.

Devin Puckett (0-1) took the first loss on the mound inside the Joe Miller Ballpark. The junior from Wayne, Mich., threw for 3.1 innings for five hits against, nine earned runs, five walks, and three strikeouts. Payton Baylis and Brandon Dunn also took turns on the mound. Baylis pitched for 1.0 innings for two hits against one earned run, one walk, and one strikeout, while Dun pitched for 1.2 innings for one hit against, four runs (three earned), two walks, and three strikeouts.

The Braves connected for two hits, with one run and one error. Diego Lopez-Molina and Tyler Daniels had one hit, Lopez Molina scored one run, and Jamaal Green had one RBI.

Ty Abraham pitched 6.0 innings for the win with two hits against, one earned run, and nine strikeouts. As a team, McNeese had 14 runs with eight hits. Brad Burckel and Payton Harden had two hits. Harden also had a game-high 4 RBIs.

Jermel Ford (0-1) was credited with the loss in the second game. The freshman from Hattiesburg started the contest for 3.0 innings pitched, four hits against, six runs (one earned), two walks, and five strikeouts.

Alcorn had one run and one hit in the outing while having three errors. Tyler Daniels hit one single, and Jamaal Green brought in one runner.

McNeese State landed 16 hits for 17 runs with two errors. Burckel led the Cowboys with a 3-for-5 appearance to score three runs with five RBIs.

Grant Rogers (2-0) threw for six innings, one hit against, one unearned run, one walk, and 13 strikeouts for the Cowboys victory.

The Braves will close out the series against the Cowboys on Sunday, Feb. 27. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
