NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Alcorn State men's basketball team closes the Northwestern three-game series with a run in the top of the sixth in the 16-1 loss on Sunday. The Braves go 0-3 against the Demons and fall to 0-11 on the season.

In Alcorn's final matchup against the Demons, the Braves scored one run on three hits. The designated hitter Ryan Sonnier led the effort with a two-for-three appearance while Tyler Daniels scored one run and Diego Lopez-Molina had one RBI.

On the mound, Jermel Ford (0-3) took the loss with 2.0 innings pitched, four hits against, seven earned runs, four walks, and one strikeout. Ryan Poston entered in the third to throw for 1.1 innings for four hits against, six earned runs, two walks, and one strikeout. Brandon Dunn and Payton Baylis also spent time pitching for the Braves, but Austin Guzman closed the contest, pitching the final two innings of the seven-inning game for two hits against, two walks, and two strikeouts.

Now 6-9, the Demons recorded 16 runs, 11 hits, and one error against Alcorn. Gary Rowlett, Bryce Holmes, and Jeffrey Elkins all had two hits in the contest. Cameron Parikh and Elkins had four RBIs, and Holmes and Cam Sibley scored three runs each.

Drayton Brown (1-2) earned his first pitching victory for Northwestern. He pitched 5.0 innings for one hit against, two walks, and five strikeouts.

The Braves scored their only run in the top of the sixth. Daniels reached base on balls and then advanced to second on a single by Jamaal Green through the left side. Sonnier followed with a single down the rightfield line to put three runners on base for Alcorn. Daniels then scored a run on a fielder's choice to prevent the shutout.

Alcorn baseball will return to action this weekend when it opens conference play against Texas Southern. The Braves will host the Tigers Friday, March 18-Sunday, March 20, in a three-game series.
