LORMAN, Miss. – Texas Southern softball completed the three-game sweep of the Braves, defeating Alcorn 6-2 in the final game on Monday. After the loss, ASU falls to 7-16 on the season and opens league play 0-3. The Tigers improve to 6-10 and 3-0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Across seven innings, Alcorn scored two runs with four hits and two errors. Tyesha Cole, Desirea Lindsey, Chloey Morgan, and Genise Wells each managed one hit to lead the Braves. Wells and Coles added a single run and Kristian Edwards and Miracle Crosby had one RBI.
Brenn Ursin (2-6) started the contest for Alcorn for the loss on the mound. The Brave surrendered six runs (five earned) on six hits over six innings. She struck out two. Ta'niyah Fletcher closed the game, throwing for 1.0 innings with one hit against.
Texas Southern mounted a tough offense against Alcorn, scoring six runs on seven hits with an error. Several Tigers had a single hit, but Tevanae Tate led the team in RBIs with four, hitting a grand slam in the sixth.
Jazmine Gendorf (3-5) was the winning pitcher for TSU. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out two, and walking none.
The contest began with three relatively silent frames, but a big fourth would see the Tigers score all six runs in the inning. Hale Castro scored Madison Griggs on a single to third base, and Tate hit an in-the-park grand slam to clear the bases. Julia Bilboa added the sixth run, scoring Crimson Davis on a single to center field.
Alcorn scored its two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Wells scored Edwards's ground out, and Crosby scored Cole on a sacrifice bunt.
On Wednesday, the Braves return to the Alcorn Softball Complex in doubleheader action against ULM. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
