Softball has Setback at Southeastern Louisiana

LORMAN, Miss. – After having its best series of the season, the Lady Braves softball team suffered a setback, dropping both games of a doubleheader contest at Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday. With the loss, Alcorn State moves to 11-20 on the season as the Lady Lions improve to 20-10.

Game One (L, 6-0)
Amari Ramsey and Kelsey Patterson found hits in the doubleheader opener against Southeastern Louisiana, but it was not enough to get the Lady Braves on the board. Alcorn State softball suffered its second shutout of the season with a 6-0 loss to the Lady Lions.

Starting and throwing for three innings, Lexi Veamoi (3-7) took the loss in the circle. The Athens, Ga. native faced 15 batters for three hits against, three earned runs, four walks, and one strikeout. Ta'Niyah Fletcher also pitched for three innings, facing 12 batters for two hits against, three runs (one earned), one strikeout, and one walk.

The Lady Braves saw just two hits with two errors as a squad.

Scoring six runs, SLU had five hits and one error. Aeriyl Mass led the offensive effort with a 2-for-3 appearance for four RBIs.

Mass started the scoring effort in the second innings, with a single for three RBIs. She added a fourth ribbie in the fourth with a single to first base. The Lady Lions scored the final run in the fifth as Blaire Bizette singled to score an unearned run.

Alexis Findley (1-0) took over pitching duties in the second inning for the Lady Lions for her first pitching victory of the season. She pitched 4.0 innings to face 13 batters with one hit against and six strikeouts.

Game Two (L, 10-2)

The Lady Braves collected two runs five hits with just one error in the second contest of the day, but they could not stay on top of Southeastern Louisiana. Kristian Edwards, Mycah Hall, Amari Ramsey, Kelsey Patterson, and Jillian Walters had one hit each, and Edwards and Genise Wells scored a run. Patterson recorded Alcorn's only RBI.

Kiri Parker (4-4) was credited with the loss in the circle. She started the competition for the Lady Braves to pitch 2.1 innings for six hits against, seven earned runs, and two walks.

SLU scored 10 runs on 11 hits with one error. Several Lady Lions had two hits and two runs, while Aeiryl Mass had a 2-for-3 appearance with three ribbies to lead the offense.

MC Comeaux (6-3) grabbed the win, pitching 4.1 innings with five hits against, two runs (one earned), one walk, and six strikeouts.

The Lady Braves scored their two runs early in the game, both in the first inning. Patterson singled up the middle to score Edwards, and Wells came home on a passed ball.

Southeastern Louisiana would score three runs on three hits in the second frame, five runs on five hits in the third, and single runs in the fourth and fifth for the 10-2 victory.

UP NEXT
Alcorn State will bring the game home this weekend for a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series with Southern University beginning Friday evening with a doubleheader at 4 p.m. The third game is set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
