Nicholls Outlasts Men's Tennis in 4-3 Decision

THIBODAUX, La. – The Alcorn State men's tennis team falls at Nicholls State in a close 4-3 decision. The Braves move to 1-8 on the season while the Colonels improve to 6-5.

Alcorn State started the match strong, claiming the doubles point 2-1. On court one, the David Pata and Lucas Dini combo took the first contest for the Braves 6-1 against Nicola Wehrle and P. Surendra Salekar. Luka Andonov and Luka Rodic took the second set for Alcorn on court two, defeating Omar Morsy and Antonio Sasso 6-3. The Colonels took the final doubles game on court three, with Griffin Babineaux and P. Pravin Bagade defeating Santiago Rocca and Kareem Bowe.

In the singles contest, Nicholls tied the game at 1-1 as Salekar took the first game against Andonov after he retired after the first set. Pavle Drobnjakovic gave Colonels their first lead of the match, defeating Rocca 6-3, 6-0 on court five to bring the score to 2-1. Sasso grabbed Nicholls's third match point, defeating Santitto (6-1, 6-2) on court six.

The remaining three matches finished almost simultaneously as Pata took down Richardo Machado 7-5 and 6-4 on court two, and Rodic outlasted Wehrle 4-6, 6-3, and 10-6, but it was not enough for the victory. Nicholls took the point on court one.

Braves men's tennis will be back on the court in seven days, traveling to Montgomery, Ala., to take on Alabama A&M.
