Men's Tennis Splits Weekend Contest

LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State men's tennis took on Xavier University and Mississippi Valley State University in weekend competitions to go 1-1 over the two days of play. The Braves move to 4-11 on the season and 3-2 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Alcorn struggled against the Gold Rush to fall 4-1 Friday afternoon.

Xavier swept the doubles competition, taking all three sets for the first point of the contest. On court one, the Gold Rush pair Santiago Perez and Juan Ramirez defeated David Pata and Lucas Dini 6-2. On the second court, Megh Patel and Jacobi Baine outlasted Luka Andonov and Luka Rodic 6-3, and on court three, Guillermo Coiras and Juan Varon downed Santiago Rocca and Kareem Bowe 6-2.

Andonov was the only Brave to take a singles game. The Skopje, Macedonia native defeated Santiago Juan Ramirez 6-4, 6-4.

The Gold Rush picked up three other singles games to take the match.

Alcorn dominated Mississippi Valley on Saturday to make a clean 4-0 sweep of the match.

The opponents forewent the doubles contest, so the singles games decided the match. Pata, Dini, Andonov, and Rodic took their singles contests 6-0 for a quick 4-0 victory.
