LORMAN, Miss. – The Lady Braves softball team connected for five hits and scored one run against the Panthers of Prairie View A&M, but it was not enough for the win. Alcorn fell 2-1 against PV Friday evening at the Alcorn Softball Complex.
The Lady Braves move to 15-26 on the season and 8-8 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Chloey Morgan led the offense with a 2-for-3 plate appearance as Kristian Edwards recorded Alcorn's only RBI with her eighth triple.
Lexi Veamoi (5-10) threw for the entire seven innings in the circle loss. She had six strikeouts.
The Panthers scored two runs on ten hits. Jaylyn Davis and Jerrica Rojas had two hits and two RBIs. Cailin Massey earned the circle victory, lasting the entire game with one walk and nine strikeouts.
Prairie View put up the first runs early, bringing in two runs in the top of the first on two singles and a double.
Five silent innings passed before the Lady Braves made it onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Tcake Cole singled to reach first and stole second. Marsha Hunt followed with another single, scoring Cole and advancing to second on a throw. Alcorn could not extend the inning and entered the seventh inning trailing 2-1.
In the final frame, Kelsey Lockridge made it to base on a single through the left side and took second on an error, but the Lady Braves could not convert her bases into runs.
The Braves and Panthers will return to the Alcorn Softball Complex on Saturday, April 22, for a 1 p.m. doubleheader to close out the series. Alcorn will also honor its seniors who are closing out their final season as Lady Braves.
