Softball Splits Doubleheader with Prairie View

LORMAN, Miss. – The Lady Braves softball team split a twin bill to close out the three-game series versus Prairie View A&M, falling just one shy of 100 career wins for head coach Josef Rankin. Alcorn defeated the Panthers 7-2 in game one and lost 4-3 in game two to finish the weekend.

GAME ONE (W, 7-2)
In the opening frames of the first contest, junior pitcher Kiri Parker sat down 12 consecutive batters for a perfect four innings as the Lady Braves' offense scored six runs.

Alcorn put up its first run in the second inning as Chloey Morgan doubled, and Desirea Lindsey scored on a throwing error by the left fielder to give the Lady Braves a 1-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the third, the Lady Braves added four runs to extend the lead to 5-1. Kristian Edwards scored on another error by the Panthers' shortstop, Kelsey Lockridge scored on a single by Genise Wells, Wells came home on an error by the catcher, and Lindsey scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch.

Alcorn scored its last unanswered run in the bottom of the fourth as a double by Marsha Hunt scored Kennedy Terry.

In the fifth frame, Prairie View ended its hitting drought. Madison Parker singled to right field to bring Jaylyn Davis home for the Panthers' first run. PV changed the score to 6-2, as Taliya Talley came home on a sacrifice fly by Aniya Spangler.

The Lady Braves answered in the bottom of the frame for a final score of 7-2 as Morgan scored a run on a wild pitch.

In the outing, Alcorn put up 11 hits with no errors to top the Panthers. Morgan led the effort with a 3-for-4 plate appearance for two RBIs and one run. In the circle, Parker (6-6) pitched the complete game for four hits against, two earned runs, and three strikeouts.

GAME TWO (L, 4-3)
The Lady Braves saw another early lead in the second game of the doubleheader, collecting the first two runs in the contest.

In the bottom of the first, Morgan covered all four bases with a double and an error by the shortstop for the 1-0 advantage.

Alcorn grabbed its second run in the fourth as Lindsey singled to second base, and Mycah Hall scored on an error by the catcher.

PV locked the board at two in the fifth to end the Lady Braves' lead. Davis singled to third base to score Brandi Juarez, and Parker singled to the shortstop to score Spangler.

In the seventh, the Panthers clinched the win, scoring two runs on a single to take a 4-2 lead.
