SERIES VS. FLORIDA A&M
The Braves lead the all-time series against the Florida A&M Rattlers by a count of 10-6. The two teams split a pair of meetings last year, as the home team won each game, respectfully. The Braves dropped a tough 70-68 decision in Tallahassee, before turning around and claiming a 68-58 win from the Rattlers at the Davey L. Whitney Complex later in the season.

SCOUTING FLORIDA A&M
Florida A&M arrives to Lorman with a record of 3-13 overall, and a SWAC record of 1-4 on the campaign. Head Coach Robert McCullum is in his fifth season, officially, at the helm of the Rattlers program with the program opting out during the COVID-stricken 2020-21 athletic season.

  • The Rattlers are firing at a 31.9 percent clip from beyond the arc
  • Dimingus Stevens (11.2 ppg) and Jordan Tillmon (11.0 ppg) are the leading scorers
  • Stevens is shooting at a team-leading 51.1 percent mark from three-point range

SERIES VS. BETHUNE-COOKMAN
In what is a storied history for both the Purple and Gold and Bethune-Cookman in the sport of men's basketball, Monday evening's affair will be just the third meeting all-time between Alcorn and BCU. The two teams split last year's two meetings, as it was the road teams taking much-needed wins between the two sides, respectfully.

SCOUTING BETHUNE-COOKMAN
Bethune-Cookman first takes on Jackson State on Saturday, Jan. 21, before arriving to the Lorman-based campus for Monday evenings' contest. The Wildcats arrive to Mississippi with a 6-12 overall record, and a 2-3 mark in league play. The Cats are under the direction of second-year head coach Reggie Theus, who also serves as the school's Director of Athletics. BCU is just 1-9 away from home this season, including defeats in each of its last two away conference contests.

  • The Wildcats are the SWAC's third-best three-point shooting team, hitting at a 36 percent clip as a unit
  • Damani McEntire still leads the SWAC in steals per game, averaging 2.3 per game (21st in the NCAA)
  • Zion Harmon is the leading scorer for the Wildcats with an average of 13.6 points per game. He's followed immediately by Marcus Garrett averaging 13.4 points per contest.
  • BCU has three players with 25 or more assists, using Harmon (50), McEntire (35) and Garrett (44) to distribute the ball

LAST TIME OUT FOR ALCORN
For the second time in as many games, Alcorn Men's Basketball claimed an overtime win – this one a 77-68 decision away to Prairie View A&M in a key SWAC meeting inside the William J. Nicks Building. Alcorn pushed its winning streak to four games as four players reached double-figures scoring in leading the Purple and Gold to yet another thrilling overtime victory.

With the Braves trailing late by a 62-57 margin, Byron Joshua connected for two of his 14 points on the night to bring the visitors to within 62-59 with 50 seconds remaining in regulation. Mike Pajeaud followed moments later with a put-back layup in following up his own miss. It would be Dominic Brewton putting back a layup off a Pajeaud missed free throw that allowed the Purple and Gold to step in front 63-62 with 43 seconds remaining. Prairie View A&M used a Hegel Augustin free throw with two seconds showing on the clock to send the game into overtime.

For the Braves, the overtime stanza represented the third of its kind on the season, having went to double overtime at UTEP on November 22, as well as the overtime win two nights ago at Texas Southern. In the overtime period, the Braves wasted little time jumping out to a quick lead – similar to Saturday's performance in the extra five minutes of play, as Dekedran Thorn connected on a pair of free throws, followed by a Brewton jumper in the paint – finished up by another pair of Brewton free throws to give the visitors at 73-65 lead with 1:28 remaining in the period. The lead would swell to a 75-65 advantage for Alcorn after Brewton hit for two more free throws. In all, he was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in overtime.

As for the Braves, the team was 8-for-8 at the foul line in overtime.

The Braves defense limited the Panthers to just 2-of-4 shooting from the field in the OT period, while forcing them into six fouls. Alcorn outscored Prairie View A&M by a 14-5 score line in overtime. Alcorn was led on the night by Brewton's 20 point scoring performance, also adding three assists to his credit. Dontrell McQuarter provided the Braves with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Joshua finished with 14 points and four assists. Meanwhile, it was Kendall turning in a double-double performance with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
