Landon Bussie and the Alcorn State University men's basketball team have started out the season with tough ranked opponents and have been tested to the extreme. Their contest tomorrow (Dec. 12) against the University of Maryland at 6 p.m. (CT) will be no different.
    The Braves (1-8) enter the contest after a loss to Virginia Commonwealth University, 58-86 while Maryland (5-4) snatched an overtime victory over fellow Big 10 Conference opponent, Penn State University, 81-75.
    In the contest with VCU, Alcorn was led by
Jeremiah Kendall with 17 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. He was followed by
Byron Joshua with 13 points, four assists, and three rebounds. Both scorers will need to be efficient against Maryland. For the season, Kendall leads the Braves with 16 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Joshua is behind him with 12.8 points and 3.4 assists per game.
Jeremiah Gambrell rounds out the top three averaging 10.5 points per game.
    The Terps were led by Jahmin Young and Julian Reese in the points category. Young scored 28 points and pulled down eight rebounds while Reese tallied a double-double of 24 points and 15 rebounds. Young is also the scoring leader for the Terps averaging 17.7 points and 3.9 assists per game. Reese is right behind him averaging 15.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, and two blocks per game.
