Braziel Delivers Nine Strikeouts in Opening Contest of Roosevelt Series

Alcorn falls 15-3 against Roosevelt in the first game of the four-game series.

LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State baseball connected for six hits against the Lakers of Roosevelt University. Despite the action at the plate, the Braves struggled to get runners home to fall 15-3 Saturday evening. Alcorn falls to 0-4 on the season, while Roosevelt improves to 3-2.

The Braves' six hits were spread evenly, with Diego Lopez-Molina, Jamaal Green, and Nathan Gamez connecting for doubles against the Lakers bullpen. Coupled with his Lopez Molina, Green, and Tyler Daniels also had one RBI each.

On the mound, Kewan Braziel was credited with the loss. He started the contest by throwing for 6.1 innings with six hits against, seven runs (five earned), three walks, and nine strikeouts.

Roosevelt scored 15 runs on 13 hits with just one error. Sean Blanchard led the effort with a 3-for-6 appearance for four runs and three RBIs. Kerry Zeese received the pitching win with 7.0 innings, five hits against, three earned runs, four walks, and two strikeouts.

The two teams will return to William "Bill" Foster Baseball field on Saturday, Feb. 25 for games two and three of the four-game series. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
