Brown Scores 14 points in Loss Versus UAPB

LORMAN, Miss. – Three Lady Braves put up double-digits in a conference match-up versus Arkansas – Pine Bluff, but it was not enough to grab the Saturday victory. Alcorn State fell 73-61 to the Golden lions to move to 8-13 on the season and 6-4 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Destiny Brown, a sophomore center from Los Angeles, Calif., scored 14 points in the contest with eight rebounds, three blocks, and two assists. Tyginae Wright added 13 points, while Zy'Nyia White had 12 to round out the Lady Braves' double-digit scoring.

On the other side, Coriah Beck led UAPB with a game-high 17 points, Jelissa Reese had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, Rasiya Potter scored 14, and Demetria Shephard had 13 points to carry the Golden Lions to the win.

The Lady Braves offense started strong but could not keep the momentum going. In the game's opening minutes, Alcorn garnered a 15-9 lead over UAPB.

Unfortunately, a series of missed field goals and some untimely turnovers allowed the Golden Lions to catch up and lock the board at 20 at the start of the second quarter. Arkansas – Pine Bluff stayed on top of the Lady Braves to close the half with a 43-31 advantage.

Coming back from the break, Alcorn struggled to find what worked against UAPB and could not regain control of the game. The Golden Lions finished strong to defeat the Lady Braves, 73-61.

Alcorn State returns to action on Monday, Feb. 8, to host Mississippi Valley State University. The game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. and will broadcast live on HBCU Go. You can also listen to the contest on WPRL 91.7.
