PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Lady Braves basketball team looked to win big Saturday afternoon to secure a spot in the 2023 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament in Birmingham next week. Unfortunately, Alcorn came up short, falling 74-66 to Arkansas – Pine Bluff inside H.O. Clemmons Arena. The Lady Braves close the season with a 12-17 overall record and 8-10 in the SWAC.
Destiny Brown was the big scorer for the Lady Braves against the Golden Lions. The sophomore center went up for 20 points and brought down four rebounds. She made 7 of 14 from the field and 6 of 7 at the free throw line for her sixth 20-plus game of the season.
Two other Lady Braves contributed to the score with double figures. Nakia Cheatham had 17 points and six boards, while Cayla Obillo had 13 points and three rebounds. Kiarra Henderson led the team in rebounding. She brought down eight boards.
Arkansas – Pine Bluff (12-16, 10-8 SWAC) secured its place in the conference championship tournament as the sixth seed. Markisha Body led the team with a double-double, recording 20 points and 14 rebounds. Coriah Beck and Tia Morgan also contributed double-digits with 19 and 15 points, respectively.
