LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University baseball team fell, 17-5, to Jackson State University in the series finale of a three-game series against the Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Bill Foster Field.
Playing first base and hitting in the four slot, Jamaal Green continues to dazzle for the Braves at the plate, extending his hitting streak to nine games this season. Green went 2-for-3 in the series finale to maintain a .583 batting average.
Mason Duke led the Braves in hitting. The freshman outfielder had a perfect 3-for-3, including a double, with a run. Jermel Ford and Tyler Daniels had 2-for-4 appearances with one run, and Ford had two RBIs. Matching Ford in RBIs, Garrett Palladino had three at-bats with one hit.
Austin Delgado took the loss on the mound. The freshman from Orlando, Fla., threw for 3.0 innings with one strikeout, four hits, seven runs (five earned), and five walks.
Bret Mersman, Jordan Young, Marcus Atterberry, and Myles White did the heavy offensive lifting for JSU. Mersman, Atterberry, and White tied for a game-high of three RBIs, and Young had a game-high four runs.
Colby Guy earned the pitching win. Guy occupied the mound for 5.0 innings with two strikeouts, five walks, seven hits against, and three earned runs.
The Braves will be back in action on Tuesday, March 7, when they host Mississippi Valley State University in a single contest. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
