Softball Drops Game One at Texas Southern

HOUSTON, TEXAS – The Alcorn Softball team suffered a tough loss in the Texas Southern series-opening contest Friday afternoon. Limited hits held the Lady Braves back as they fell 10-3 on the road at Memorial Park.

ASU moved to 8-25 overall and 5-10 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, as three Lady Braves picked up hits versus TSU. Kennedy Terry, Marsha Hunt, and Mycah Hall picked up one hit each. Hunt delivered a double and led the team in RBIs with two, and Genise Wells led the team in scoring, crossing the home plate twice during the contest.

Two pitchers made circle appearances for Alcorn. Alexa Veamoi started the game and was credited with the loss. She threw 4.2 innings for two strikeouts and eight runs (seven earned).

After the Lady Tigers opened scoring in the first inning with one run, the Lady Braves added a run of their own in the top of the second. Wells grabbed home plate on an error by the second baseman to lock the board, 1-1.

TSU regained the lead with one run in the third frame, three in the fourth, and two off a home run in the fifth. Texas Southern led the Lady Braves 8-1.

Alcorn cut into Texas Southern's lead in the sixth inning. Hall connected for a double to score Cotten and Wells, moving the score to 8-3.

The Lady Tigers added two more runs in the sixth for the 10-3 victory.

The two teams will be back in action tomorrow for the series' final two games. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for noon.
