BATON ROUGE, La. – The Alcorn State baseball team dropped the final game of the three-game series, 6-1, to Southern University on Sunday afternoon.
Two Braves connected for multiple hits in the contest against the Braves. Tyler Daniels went 2-for-4 with one run, while Kalum Banks, Jr. also had two hits on four plate appearances.
Five pitchers took the mound for Alcorn. Austin Delgado (0-5) took the pitching loss, throwing for 3.1 innings. He delivered two strikeouts with three walks, five hits against, and four runs (three earned).
Southern struck first, collecting two runs in the bottom of the first frame. The first runner came in on a sacrifice fly, and the second runner came in on a single. The Jaguars extended their lead on a fielder's choice to take a 3-0 advantage over the Braves.
Alcorn brought in their only run of the game in the fourth. Deigo Lopez-Molina was credited with the RBI after bringing Daniels in on a sacrifice fly. Daniels made it to first base on a single up the middle.
Southern answered in the bottom of the frame, bringing the score to 4-1. The team added two more in the seventh for the 6-1 victory.
Jaylen Armstrongs and Khyle Radcliffe connected for two hits each to lead the Jaguars. Nicholas Wilson took the win on the mound, throwing for seven innings for two strikeouts, six hits against, and one earned run.
The Braves will return on Tuesday, April 4, when they travel to Jackson to take on Mississippi Valley in the Hank Aaron Tribute Game. The contest is set for 6:30 p.m. at Smith Wills Stadium.
