LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn Softball team improves to 14-26 on the season after a doubleheader victory over in-state foe Rust College. The Lady Braves defeated the Bearcats 15-0 in the day's first contest and 14-1 in game two. Kelsey Lockridge led the offense with six hits on six at-bats. She also racked up eight RBIs across the two games.
In game one, Lockridge went 3-for-3, including one triple and one home run, with two runs and seven RBIs. Mycah Hall and Kennedy Terry had two RBIs, and Genise Wells had three runs.
Three Lady Braves took the circle in the first contest. Alexa Veamoi started the game by throwing for 2.0 innings, no hits, and three strikeouts. Ta'Niyah Fletcher pitched for 2.0 innings with four strikeouts, and Ashanti Carter closed the game with one strikeout.
Wells led the team's offense in game two. She went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs, while Lockridge with 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Kiri Parker was credited with the pitching win. She opened with two innings for two strikeouts, two hits against, and one earned run. A'Mya Steven threw for two innings, two hits against, and two strikeouts, and Carter closed with one inning pitched.
The Lady Braves return to action on Friday, April 28, when they travel to Arkansas – Pine Bluff for a three-game series.
