Softball Takes UAPB Series, Earns No. 3 Spot in the West

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Errors by the Golden Lions in the first inning was the perfect recipe for a Lady Braves softball victory on Monday afternoon. After opening the contest with seven runs, Alcorn went on to defeat Arkansas – Pine Bluff, 11-2, to take the road series and the No. 3 spot in the Southwestern Athletic Conference West Division.

Ta'Niyah Fletcher (3-3) was credited with her third pitching win of the season as she delivered three strikeouts in the circle. The Atlanta, Ga. native threw the entire shortened 5-inning contest for six hits against, two unearned runs, and two walks.

At the plate, Jillian Walters had a perfect 2-for-2 appearance. The sophomore from Houston, Texas, hit one of five doubles for Alcorn with two runs and one RBI.

Mycah Hall had a game-high two RBIs. She had one hit with three at-bats and one run.

The Lady Braves return to action on Wednesday, May 3, when they take on Grambling State in a make-up contest. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m. at the Alcorn State Softball Complex.
