Softball Drops Last Contest of the Regular Season

LORMAN, Miss. – Hot bats for Grambling doomed the Lady Braves softball team in a 6-1 loss to the Lady Tigers Wednesday afternoon. Alcorn closes the regular season with a 16-28 record overall and 11-13 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Kennedy Terry led Alcorn at the plate with a 2-for-3 outing for one run. Marsha Hunt led the team in RBIs with one. She had three at-bats with one hit.

In the circle, senior pitcher Alexa Veamoi was credited with the loss. She threw 5.2 innings for two strikeouts, seven hits against, four runs (two earned), and two walks. A'Mya Stevens entered the contest in the sixth inning. She delivered a strikeout, six hits against, two runs (one earned), and one base on balls.

The game started slowly, with two scoreless innings. Grambling struck first, scoring a run on a triple in the top of the third frame.

The Lady Tigers gained a 5-0 lead in the sixth, as Alcorn committed one error and Grambling connected for six hits.

ASU scored its only run in the bottom of the inning. Terry sent a single to center field to reach base and stole second. She eventually scored on a single from Hunt.

Closing out the game, Grambling scored its final run in the seventh for the 6-1 victory.

The Lady Braves will begin postseason play next week, traveling to Gulfport, Miss. for the SWAC Championship Tournament. The bracket for the week-long event at the Gulfport Sportsplex will be released in the coming days.
