LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State baseball team dropped both contests of a doubleheader against Arkansas – Pine Bluff Saturday afternoon. The Braves fell 19-2 in the opening game and 6-3 in game two at Bill Foster Field inside Rat McGowan Stadium.
GAME ONE (19-2)
Two Braves connected for hits against UAPB in game one. Dillon Crowell and Khalil had singles, while Chris Tillman had one RBI.
Six throwers took the mound for Alcorn, but starting pitcher Michael Lorenz was credited with the loss. He threw for 1.0 innings for four runs (two earned), four hits against, and three walks. Kalum Bank, Jr. entered the contest in the fifth inning. He occupied the mound for two innings with three strikeouts, two hits against, one earned run, and two walks.
GAME TWO (6-3)
Braves struck first in the bottom of the first frame. Tyler Daniels doubled to reach second and was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Banks, Jr.
UAPB tied the game with a run in the third and took a 2-1 lead in the fifth.
Alcorn responded in the sixth and took a 3-2 advantage. With bases loaded, a walk scored Ben Martin, and a single from Jeremiah Farmer brought home Gavin Caston.
Three runs in the eighth and an additional run in the ninth secured the 6-3 victory for the Golden Lions.
Daniels led the Braves at the plate with a 2-for-5 appearance and one run. Banks, Jr., Nathan Gamez, and Farmer led the team with one RBI each.
Kewan Braziel was credited with the pitching loss. He threw for 7.1 innings for seven strikeouts, four hits, four runs (one earned), and three walks.
The Braves will return to action tomorrow, Sunday, May 7, in game three of the UAPB series. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
