LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State baseball will be represented in the Inaugural HBCU Swingman Classic founded by legendary MLB player Ken Griffey, Jr. The game will be live on MLB Network presented by T-Mobile on July 7th at 9:30 p.m. CT.

Freshman Kewan Braziel was selected to participate in the inaugural event by a committee that included Griffey Jr., representatives from MLB, MLBPA, and scouts.

"I am thrilled and excited for Kewan being selected to MLB's Inaugural HBCU Swingman Classic," said Head Coach, Reggie Williams. "It's an honor I'm sure he'll never forget. Kewan worked very hard during his freshman campaign, becoming one of the key pitchers on our staff. Kewan has a high ceiling, and it would not surprise me one bit to see him playing at the next level. Congratulations are in order for him, as I know he will represent Alcorn State in a first-class manner!"

The HBCU Swingman Classic will highlight the history and legacy of HBCU baseball programs while also providing 50 HBCU baseball players with the opportunity to showcase their talent on a national stage. They will participate in a variety of MLB All-Star Week and general community-focused activities. The broadcast will include MLB Network analyst Harold Reynolds, Mariner's broadcaster Dave Sims, and HBCU Sports Journalist Symone Stanley as the sideline reporter. Griffey Jr. will join the broadcast from each dugout throughout the game.

Historically, many HBCU alumni have reached Major League Baseball, including Hall of Famers Andre Dawson and Lou Brock as well as Marquis Grissom, Rickie Weeks, Jr., Ralph Garr, Vince Coleman, Tommie Agee, Tom Alston, Earl Battey, Joe Black and others. Hall of Famer Larry Doby is also an HBCU graduate but did not play baseball at the collegiate level.
