Alcorn Goes Head-to-Head with Texas Southern on Jan. 20

LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University Braves basketball returns to the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Jan. 20 for their first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest. The Braves will defend the court against Texas Southern University at 3 p.m.

Alcorn comes into the contest 2-14, overall, and 1-2 in SWAC play and a stinging 53-55 loss to Alabama State University on Jan. 13. In that outing, Jeremiah Kendall shined for the Braves with a 19 point and 5 rebound performances. Jeremiah Gambrell contributed 14 points while Byron Joshua added 10 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Dekedran Thorn tallied a team-high eight rebounds on the day. Alcorn will need a repeat of this performance to blaze past the Tigers.

Texas Southern (4-11, 2-2 SWAC) enters the fray after a 93-61-win over Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Miss. on Jan. 15. Jonathan Cisse led the Tigers with 21 points and five rebounds. He was followed by Grayson Carter with 10 points and eight rebounds while Kenny Hunter posted 16 points and six rebounds. Jonathan Cisse leads the Tigers in scoring averaging 10.9 points and in assists averaging 2.5 per game over the last 15 games. In over 11 appearances, P.J. Henry is close behind Cisse as he averages 12.5 points and 2.3 assists per game. Grayson Carter and Kenny Hunter are the rebound leaders as they average 4.6 and 4.1 boards per game, respectively.
