LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University men's basketball suffered its first Southwestern Athletic Conference home game to Texas Southern University on Saturday afternoon. The Braves were defeated by the Tigers, 61-72.
The tandem of
Jeremiah Gambrell and
Jeremiah Kendall put-up double-digit point performances in the game. Gambrell posted 17 points and three rebounds while Kendall scored 16 points and snagged five rebounds.
Byron Joshua added 10 points and a team-high five assists.
Djahi Binet grabbed six boards for the day while
Dekedran Thorn tallied four steals.
The Braves went 42.3 percent from the field and 68.4 percent from the free throw line. Alcorn outscored TSU 18-14 in points off turnovers and 10-9 in fast break points.
The Tigers were led by Grayson Carter with 17 points and four rebounds. Jaylen Wysinger recorded 14 points and three rebounds while P.J. Henry accounted for 13 points and three rebounds.
Texas Southern went 40.7 percent from the field and 82.4 percent from the line.
ASU will be back in the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Monday, Jan. 22 against Prairie View A&M University. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
