LORMAN, Miss. – After dropping a game to Texas Southern University, 61-72, Alcorn State University men's basketball looks to bounce back against Prairie View A&M University on Monday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
The Braves (2-15, 1-3 SWAC) were led by
Jeremiah Gambrell with 17 points and three rebounds in the loss. He was followed by
Jeremiah Kendall with 16 points and five rebounds and
Byron Joshua with 10 points and five rebounds.
Djahi Binet tallied six rebounds while
Dekedran Thorn snatched four steals. Alcorn's magic bucket tandem of Gambrell and Kendall will have to be on all cylinders for a Braves win.
Gambrell pushed himself to 1,009 career points with his 17-point performance in the lost and is second in scoring for ASU averaging 11.6 points per game. Kendall is Alcorn's leading scorer as he averages 16.3 points per game. As a court initiator, Joshua leads the team in assists averaging 3.6 assists per game.
PVAMU (7-10, 2-2 SWAC) defeated Jackson State University on Saturday afternoon, 71-62. The Panthers were led by four different student-athletes with double-digit point totals. Javonta Hopkins recorded 18 points and eight rebounds. Charles Smith, IV tallied 17 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Brian Myles contributed a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds while dishing out two assists. Charles Lane, Jr. recorded 12 points.
Smith, IV leads the team in scoring averaging 13.9 points per game. Myles is the rebound leader for the Panthers as he averages 7.4 boards per game. Kevin McGaskey leads the team in assists with 3.2 per game.
