BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alcorn State University men's indoor track & field competed at the Samford January Invitational hosted by Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. on Jan. 19. The Braves hit the track against schools such as the University of Alabama, Northwestern State University, and the University of South Alabama.

Arrington Robinson and Johnny Holloway, III represented Alcorn in the men's 60-meter dash. Robinson finished with a time of 7.00 seconds while Holloway, III ended the race with a time of 7.04 seconds. Troy University's Tydreke Thomas won the event with a time of 6.62 seconds. Jekovan Rhetta of Alabama came in second place with a time of 6.69 second. Zachaeus Beard, an unattached runner from Northwestern State, came in third place with a time of 6.69 seconds.
    In the men's 400-meter run, Trellas Forrest, Jr. ran for the Braves and finished in eighth place with a time of 50.02 seconds. Jalon White of McNeese State University claimed top honors as he finished with a time of 47.34 seconds. South Alabama's Javon Glen came in second place with a time of 48.62 seconds. White's teammate, Ondray Miles, finished in third place with a time of 48.72.

Alocius Kipngetich,
Terrell White, and
Kendrick Matthews ran for Alcorn in the men's 800-meter run. Kipngetich finished in seventh place with a time of 1:57.30. White finished with a time of 2:02.09 and Matthews ended the race with a time of 2:03.91. Zephaniah Carico-McLennan of Samford won the race with a time of 1:51.10. Harrison Siegel of Samford took second place with a time of 1:52.01. Alabama's Kai Crawford came in third place with a time of 1:53.78.
    In the men's mile run,
Kelvin Kipkemboi,
Bethwel Limo, and
Jaden Ramos competed for the Braves. Kipkemboi placed 10th with a time of 4:37.84. Limo finished the race with a time of 5:21.59 while Ramos crossed the finish line with a time of 5:37.26. Alabama's Arthur Graham won the event with a time of 4:08.75. Jace Jones of Alabama claimed second place with a time of 4:14.47 and teammate, Knox Exton took third place with a time of 4:15.68.
    Alcorn (Robinson, Forrest, Holloway, III, and Kipngetich) finished in fifth place in the men's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:19.73. Alabama (A team) won the event with a time of 3:14.62. McNeese State took second place with a time of 3:15.83. The B team from Alabama came in third place with a time of 3:19.25.
    In the men's long jump,
Jeremiah Saintil and Jvontae Noel competed for the Braves. Saintil posted a jump of 6.52 meters (21' 4.75") while Noel recorded a jump of 6.28 meters (20' 7.25"). Caleb Makins of South Alabama took the event with a jump of 6.97 meters (22' 10.5"). Northwestern State's Randy Kelly came in second place with a jump of 6.97 meters (22' 10.5"). Haruki Sakai of Troy University claimed third place with a jump of 6.89 meters (22' 7.25").
    In the men's shot put,
Tyson Keys and
Shylan Bradforn threw for Alcorn State. Keys threw for 12.54 meters (41' 1.75") while Bradforn threw for 8.43 meters (27' 8"). South Alabama's Sebastian Loschner won the event with a throw of 17.52 meters (57' 2.25"). Altwayne Bedward of Troy University came in second place with a throw of 16.88 meters (55' 4.75"). Marcus Francis of McNeese claimed third place with throw of 16.82 meters (55' 2.25").
