LORMAN, Miss. – After a tough 75-79 loss to George Washington University on Dec. 21, the Alcorn State University men's basketball team (1-12) are ready for Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The Braves will face Jackson State University on Saturday, Jan. 6 in Jackson to open league play.
Against the Revolutionaries,
Jalen Hawkins exploded with 24 points and three rebounds. He was followed by
Stephen Byard with 14 points and a team-high nine boards and Michael Pajead with 13 points.
Roderick Jones was the assist leader for the contest with seven.
The Braves offense will have to be efficient to keep scorers like Hawkins and the current leader,
Jeremiah Kendall (16.1 ppg) in position to lead. Kendall also leads the team in rebounds averaging 6.6 boards per game.
In Jackson's last game, the Tigers (4-9) were defeated by Northwestern University on the road, 63-74. Ken Evans, Jr. led the team with 23 points and four rebounds. He was followed by Chase Adams with 13 points while Zeke Cook tallied a team-high seven rebounds.
Alcorn's defense will have to close lanes against Evan, Jr. who averages 18.5 points per game. Under the basket, Kendall will do battle with Cook as he averages 6.6 boards per game.
