LORMAN, Miss. – After a close loss to Jackson State University to open Southwestern Athletic Conference play, Alcorn State University men's basketball (1-13,0-1 SWAC) hopes to bounce back against Alabama A&M University on Thursday. The Braves will tip off against the Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
ASU's loss to the Tigers on Jan. 6, 80-88, featured a double-double performance from Jeremiah Kendall with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Djahi Binet exploded onto the scene with a 15 point and six rebounds game. Jeremiah Gambrell tallied 11 points while Stephen Byard contributed 10 points. Alcorn's offense will need scorers such as Kendall and Gambrell to come up big against AAMU to secure the win.
Kendall leads the Braves averaging 16 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Byron Joshua keeps the offense moving with 3.1 assists per game.
Alabama A&M (3-12, 2-0 SWAC) enters the contest after a win over the Mississippi Valley State University, 78-70. Dailin Smith was the leader for the Bulldogs with 17 points while Lorenzo Downey ended the game with 14 points and five rebounds. E.J. Williams and A.C. Bryant rounded out the top scorers with 13 points and 10 points, respectively. was the assist leader with seven. Smith and Cameron Tucker racked up seven boards a piece. Tucker also tallied three steals. Alcorn's defense will have to be lights out to prevent the Bulldogs from getting second chances at the basket. Kendall's paint presence will be essential to contain Tucker from cleaning up under the goal. Tucker leads AAMU in rebounding averaging 5.3 boards per game.
