LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University men's basketball (5-15, 4-3 SWAC) looks to extend their three game win streak as they host the Louisiana Southwestern Athletic Conference opponents, Southern University and Grambling State University. The Braves will face the Jaguars on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m. and the Tigers on Monday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
In their last outing, Alcorn defeated Bethune-Cookman University on Jan. 29, 70-67.
Jeremiah Kendall led the way for the Braves scoring 19 points and snatching down six boards.
Byron Joshua finished the night with 13 points and seven assists while
Jalen Hawkins contributed 10 points, four assists, and two steals.
For the season, Kendall is the leading scorer and rebounder with 15.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Gambrell is second for scoring as he averages 11.7 points per game. In 17 appearances, Joshua averages 12 points and 3.9 assists per game.
Southern (11-9, 5-2 SWAC) comes into the Davey L. Whitney Complex after a 78-54 home win over Mississippi Valley State University on Jan. 29. Tai'Reon Joseph was the leading scorer in the game dropping 18 points. He was followed by Brandon Davis with 16 points and four steals and Derrick Tezeno with 10 points. Tidjiane Dioumassi tallied seven rebounds and seven assists.
Joseph is the Jaguar's top scorer, averaging 20.8 points per game. Dioumassi is the offensive initiator averaging 4.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
GSU (8-12, 5-2 SWAC) go head-to-head with the Braves after a stinging 70-86 home loss to the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tra'Michael Moton put on a show recording 26 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Jourdan Smith put up 15 points and four rebounds while Kintavious Dozier scored 12 points.
Overall, Dozier leads the team in scoring averaging 14.2 points per game. Jonathan Aku averages 5.7 rebounds per game while Moton averages 2.5 assists.
