LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University men's basketball has been on the war path as they have won their last five contest and find themselves in contention for post season play in the Southwestern Athletic Conference basketball tournament. The Braves must close out the season strong and this road trip will be the test. ASU will go head-to-head with Prairie View A&M University on Saturday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m. and face Texas Southern University on Monday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m.
    The Braves (10-17, 9-5 SWAC) come into the weekend after a rousing 87-73 win over Jackson State University. Bryon Joshua had the hot hand as he scored 21 points, collected five rebounds and two steals, while dishing out two assists. He was followed by the consistent
Jeremiah Kendall with 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.
Jeremiah Gambrell put up 13 points, a block, and a steal.
Michael Pajeaud proved to be the all-around man for the night has he recorded nine points, snatched down eight rebounds, kicked out six assists, put up a block and snagged a steal.
    Alcorn will need all assets working in harmony and stout defense to come away with two wins in Texas. For the season, Kendall leads the team in scoring and rebounds averaging 16.4 points and 6.9 boards. Gambrell comes in second for scoring averaging 12.2 points. Joshua is third for scoring averaging 11.3 points while leading the team in assists averaging 4.1 assists per game.
    Prairie View A&M (10-18, 5-10 SWAC) suffered a loss to the previously winless Mississippi Valley State University, 51-57. The Panthers had two players score in double figures, led by Chris Felix, Jr., who had 17 points. Javontae Hopkins tacked on 17 points and seven rebounds and Brian Myles added seven points, 22 rebounds and two blocks.
    Charles Smith, IV leads PVAMU in scoring averaging 13.6 points per game while Myles leads in assists averaging 9.1 per game.
    Texas Southern (12-14, 10-5 SWAC) enters Monday's contest after defeating the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 77-70. PJ Henry led the team with 25 points while Johnathan Cisse added 17 points. Jaylen Wysinger chipped in 12 points and Kenny Hunter followed with 10 points and seven boards.
    Henry leads the team in scoring and assists averaging 15.2 points and 2.4 dishes. Cisse is second in scoring averaging 11.6 points. Hunter is the leading rebounder averaging 4.3 boards per game.
